1 2 3 Locate It carried out works at the Sunshine Plaza, which has recently celebrated its grand opening of a $440 million re-development at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. The stores take Sunshine Plaza’s total retailer count to 345 over 170,000sqm and elevate the facility to be the first super-regional shopping centre north of Brisbane.

Gary Horwitz, Lendlease Managing Director of Retail said ‘the opening of this re-development is an exciting step forward for Sunshine Plaza and the Sunshine Coast. It will strengthen the Sunshine Coast’s attractiveness to both the local community and tourists; and will increase the economic vibrancy of the Coast through world class shopping, dining and entertainment’.

The Sunshine Coast region has its first David Jones and H&M store along with the addition of 100 specialty stores such as JB Hi-Fi, Kathmandu, MECCA, lululemon, Sheike and Endota Spa.

Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson said, ‘the expansion of the Sunshine Plaza represents a significant capital investment in our region and for the retail industry. The calibre of retail outlets will encourage our residents to shop within our region and spend locally. The plaza is also a destination for the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg drive markets and will attract shoppers from the west’.

1 2 3 Locate It provided asset location services for a number of contractors across the site, for building works and for new tenancies, as well as refurbished tenancies. With the refurbishment of tenancies, the fit-out contractors needed to find underground pipes, communications and power in the ground, and beneath the concrete floor of existing tenancies, before carrying out renovations involving cutting or drilling of concrete to re-run electrical cabling and/or plumbing.

The use of electromagnetic location technology, often referred to as an ‘underground cable locator’, is frequently used to locate pipes, cables and sewers that are buried underground. Rather than using an underground cable locator, often the more suitable option when locating services in concrete is Ground Penetrating Radar technology (GPR). 1 2 3 Locate It used both of these technologies for the varied location work required at the Sunshine Plaza.

1 2 3 Locate It, as part of the Leaktech Group can quickly deploy a single underground service locator or GPR technician, or a team, for small projects such as suburban strip shops, or larger shopping centres such as the Sunshine Plaza. No job is too big or too small. We frequently carry out jobs required on the day they’re called in; that only take one hour.  For example, on those occasions where the client or contractor has forgotten to organise, or, was unaware of their responsibility to minimise the risk of accidental damage to underground infrastructure.
